How westside is diffrent from other retail outlets such as shopper stop or crossroads?

At Westside we are not retailing any other garment brands. We stock only our own store brands. This means that all the stuff available is made or sourced by Westside itself and therefore the store label ‘Westside’ acts as a product label. Only in a few categories such as cosmetics and toys are brands other than Westside present. Those are categories that complement the Westside range.
We have positioned Westside on the ‘fashion at affordable pricing’ plank. By retailing our own Westside brand we are able to eliminate intermediaries and therefore offer better prices. Westside is unique with its own brand of merchandise, which is trendy and individualistic. We cater to the shopper who values not just the product but the total shopping experience.
To cater to this need, Westside has its team of in-house designers who design exclusively for the store. All merchandise passes the stringent quality standards that befit everything that carries the Tata name. The products at Westside are not just of high quality and reasonably priced but are contemporary and stylish as well.
The stores are divided into many departments -- menswear, womenswear, kidswear, household accessories, gifts, cosmetics, perfumes and other accessories. For women, there are casuals, formals and chic Indian wear. The range has great depth spanning from basic clothing to very trendy wear. Unlike a lot of stores, the range at Westside caters to a wide age group and takes into account differing tastes and requirements. We offer accessories as well, such as handbags, jewellery, scarves and hair accessories.
In menswear, the range goes from formal to casual and sporty. And, pricewise, it extends from the value to the premium segment. Kidswear at Westside is designed to follow international trends; it is uniquely styled, whether you opt for the dressy, smart or casual.
The household section is extremely contemporary. Westside is open on all days of the week.

PRESS RELEASE: Fitch Rates Tata Projects Bank Loan Facilities

Fitch Ratings-London/Mumbai/Singapore-13 October 2008: Fitch Ratings has today assigned Tata Projects Limited (TPL)'s INR600m cash credit limits a National Long-term 'AA-(minus)(ind)' rating and its INR17,500m non-fund-based limits a National Short-term 'F1+(ind)' rating. At the same time, the agency has affirmed TPL at National Long-term 'AA-(minus)(ind)' with Stable Outlook. Its INR337.5m partly convertible debenture (PCD) issue is affirmed at 'AA-(minus)(ind)' and its INR300m commercial paper (CP) programme at 'F1+(ind).
TPL's ratings continue to reflect its established position in the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) sector catering primarily to the power industry. They also reflect the company's strong order book and support from Tata Group companies. TPL's present order book size is more than 4.5x its FY08 revenues, with an increasing focus on metals, minerals, and oil and gas sector- related projects which will reduce its reliance on the power sector and thus provide greater diversity. The ratings continue to draw strength from the company's consistently low financial leverage over the past four years, benefiting from efficient working capital management. TPL also enjoys financial flexibility and project execution support from Tata Group companies.
TPL remains focused on moving into higher value-added projects; it has on its present order book contracts of higher margins and with better payment terms compared to projects undertaken in the past. Its plans include additional transmission and distribution (T&D)-related businesses from the Middle East, which will improve margins, a joint venture with Engineers India Limited, and starting a new civil construction division.
Fitch notes bigger projects have resulted in significant sectoral and customer concentration in TPL's order book. Although its projects entail significant execution risks given their size, scale and duration of implementation, the risks are mitigated to an extent by its good track-record and execution support from Tata Group companies. As TPL out-sources most of its work to sub- contractors and operates in a highly competitive and cyclical market, its margins are generally thin. The significant risk of rising raw material prices and the long average life of projects in progress mean timely execution, in Fitch's view, is key to maintaining TPL's profitability in the short- to medium- term. In addition, EBITDA margins consistently below 3%, sustained net debt/ EBITDA above 2x and/or a weakening of group support could act as negative rating triggers.
TPL's expertise in the EPC sector includes power generation, transmission and distribution, as well as industrial infrastructure. The company has recently entered into business segments like oil, gas and hydrocarbons, railways and steel.
During FY08, revenues increased 45% yoy to INR13,520.9m while EBITDA margins increased marginally to 4.2% from 3.9% in FY07. Net debt/EBITDA was 0.7x in FY08, and has remained below 1x in the past four years. Cash from operations increased to INR631.3m in FY08 from INR386.7m in FY07. Meanwhile, funds from operations/gross interest expense reduced to 4.4x in FY08 from 7.5x in FY07, owing to increased debt.

The best risk within a country is rated 'AAA' and other credits are rated only relative to this risk. National ratings are designed for use mainly by local investors in local markets and are signified by the addition of an identifier for the country concerned, such as 'AAA (ind)' for National ratings in India. Specific letter grades are not therefore internationally comparable.

Hassel –free land, business –friendly govt and infrastructure drive Tata to Gujarat

Even before the Tatas had announced their decision on pulling out from Singur – or not – Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Modi had asked officials in the stste’s industry and revenue departments to find 1000 acres that could be made immediately available for the Nano plant .The effort paid off.

Ratan Tata said that a land near a sleepy town in Gujarat would build the world’s cheapest car, with a price tag of Rs 1 lakh .

The decision reinforces the investor –friendly image of Gujarat and its Chief minister. It would also help the Tata group to expand its presence in one of the country’s fastest growing and most prosperous states.

At least four other states held talks with Tata motors to relocate the nano plant from Singur in Weat Bengal to their territories. Gujarat scored because it moved -so quickly,so efficiently and with so much enthusiasm, said Tata. It’s the speed with which everything was provided, particularly land.

The decision was also guided by the state’s well-developed infrastructure network, particularly its highway system and reliable power supply.

Tata Launches BlackBerry Service in India

Tata Teleservices, a mobile services company in India, launched BlackBerry mobile services in the country Thursday, after a long controversy over whether the service poses a security threat to the nation.
The launch comes even as Indian government agencies are still investigating the security issues arising from the BlackBerry service, according to informed sources.
In March, Tata Teleservices said that India's Department of Telecommunications had refused it permission to offer BlackBerry services, citing security concerns.
Tata Teleservices' competitors Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications already offer the service. Bharti Airtel launched a new model of the BlackBerry, called BlackBerry Bold, on Thursday.
The Indian government asked Research In Motion earlier this year to provide the country's security agencies access to e-mails and other communications sent or received on BlackBerry devices, according to sources. The government was worried that terrorists were using BlackBerry devices to communicate with one another.
RIM said in May that it was unable to provide that access to the Indian government.
The BlackBerry security architecture for enterprise customers is specially designed to exclude the capability for RIM or any third party to read encrypted information under any circumstances, the company said.
An indication of the government's unexpected change of stance on the Tata Teleservices issue came in July when the country's Telecom Secretary Siddharth Behura told reporters in Delhi that there was no threat from BlackBerry services. The country's Telecom Minister A. Raja said in early June that the security issues over BlackBerry were likely to be resolved by the end of the month.
Behura also said that Tata Teleservices did not require permission from the government to offer the BlackBerry service, as it is a value-added service provided by operators.
Tata Teleservices subsequently firmed up plans to roll out the service.
Tata Teleservices was not available for comment on the launch of the service on Thursday, although it issued a press release. A RIM spokesman said the company had talks with the government, but did not go into details over whether there had been a resolution to the issues.
The government may have allowed Tata Teleservices to go ahead and launch the service, having decided that it would later instruct Tata Teleservices and other operators offering the service, depending on the outcome of its continued negotiations with RIM, according to sources.

e-learning forum looks at industry trends

Industry trends and issues were on the agenda at last month's meeting of the Tata Learning Forum. The conference, held in London, was organised by e-learning company TATA Interactive Systems and attended by around 150 people.
The conference heard from IBM's Piero Graneli who revealed findings from IBM's survey of CEOs in 2004. According to the survey, CEOs believe that the biggest challenge to top line growth in their businesses is 'people issues' - especially 'education'.
In his presentation, Sanjaya Sharma, CEO of TATA Interactive Systems, identified five major trends in the modern world of learning:
The delivery of learning materials to mobile devices is increasing rapidly
Outsourcing both HR activities and the production of training/learning materials is also increasing rapidly
Increasingly, many training managers are being expected to rollout learning programmes globally - which indicates the growing globalisation of business
Those providing the input for learning programmes - the teachers - are, increasingly, being drawn from anywhere in the world, making their knowledge and expertise available to anyone, anywhere in the world, and thus making 'learning' a truly global activity
The growing realisation that 'learning' is merely a blanket term - like 'fruit' rather than 'banana', 'mango', 'apple' and so on. Consequently, those commissioning 'learning programmes' are becoming more discerning and, so, are now asking for 'simulation-based', 'story-based' or other, more specific forms of learning materials
Other topics covered during the conference included 'Accessibility and e-learning', with contributions from British Airways' Alison Walker and David Prescod, of BECTA. Prescod commented that learning materials producers must translate generic standards to specific products - especially products related to IT skills. He said that the way to make these learning programmes accessible by disabled people is to shift the paradigm on which they are constructed from simulation to application training.

Journey of Tata Indica..

The year 2008 also saw a great revolution in the history of Tata Indica with the launch of the Indica V2 DICOR. This variant delivers better fuel economy with 16 valves, double overhead camshafts, intercooler, and a variable geometry turbocharger. Following the Dicor, the next generation Indica, Indica Vista, was recently launched.
Indica Vista or Indica V3 has changed the complete picture of the old Indica that was launched in 1998. Though, the car has always been on a learning curve, it has kept improving with every changing generation of Indica cars. The third generation Indica is a lot better in sophistication and overall quality. With this new car, Tata has changed all the gears to have a completely new car with better comfort, style, performance, sophistication, and overall quality.
The new Indica Vista is propelled by the advanced Quadrajet diesel engine and the globally acclaimed CVCP SAFIRE petrol engine. Vista is available in three variants known as Terra, meaning earth; Aqua, meaning water; and Aura, meaning air. Apart from world class engine technology, the car is also adorned with elegant and futuristic interior features and advanced safety technologies.
The journey of Tata Indica does not end at Tata Indica Vista, it still continues with efforts to launch an Indica EV in the country. It is believed that the company has plans to produce and launch the electric version of the Tata Indica in Norway. The electric version will definitely come to India, but Tata is waiting for the perfect time when the country is completely ready to support electrical car technology.
Journey of the Tata Indica Continues…

Tata - History of TATA cars .. FROM TRUCK TO A PASSENGER CAR

Tata Motors rolled out its first commercial vehicle in 1954. After the launch, the company studied various drawbacks in the launched vehicle and introduced DI engines to make its trucks more efficient. In 1986, the company launched the first indigenous commercial vehicle, Tata 407. The company received good response from the commercial sector and so decided to enter the passenger cars segment. After great research and studies, the company finally rolled out the first indigenous passenger car, Tata Sierra, in 1991. Initially the car was propelled by a naturally aspired engine but later on a turbocharged version was introduced. Though the car is no more in production, it was believed to be one of the most durable cars in the Indian car industry.

Finally Tesco comes to India, partners with Tata Trent
byline("August 12, 2008");
Written by Amit Agarwal on August 12, 2008 Text Size
UK’s biggest retailer has finally chosen its partner for Indian operations, to complement its strategy of growing overseas following its operations in countries like US, Korea and China. Tesco has chosen Tata Group’s retail arm, Trent Ltd to start its Indian operations.
Tesco will open 3 cash and carry stores in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore in a 50:50 JV with Trent and also assist Trent in increasing its retail presence of its hypermarkets ‘Star Bazaar’ from current 4 stores to 50 stores in next 5 years.
Tesco cash and carry stores will supply merchandise to Star Bazaar and receive a fee for using it’s retail expertise. In the front-end venture, it is very likely that like Bharti-Wal-Mart deal, the name Tesco would not feature in the stores.
For Tesco, this could have been the best possible scenario as it has got a trusted brand TATA to partner with and also leverage on its low-cost efficient model to expand its Indian business. Its wholesale business would be well complemented by the front end operations of Trent.
The deal would give a much needed fillup to Trent’s retail operations, as it has been expanding very slowly as compared to peers like Future Group, Reliance Retail and Aditya Birla ‘More’. By choosing Tesco, Star Bazaar could improve its product mix by offering a well defined value proposition.
Tata Group would also be aided by the experience of its other UK deals like Tata Steel-Corus and Tata Motors - Jaguar and Landrover deal.

Tata Consultancy interested in Siemens SIS -paper
FRANKFURT, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Tata Consultancy Services , India's top software services exporter, is interested in Siemens' IT Solutions and Services (SIS) unit, a German newspaper said on Saturday.
Talks between the two companies would begin next week in Munich, where Siemens is based, Germany's Boersen-Zeitung said, without saying where it obtained the information from.
Siemens declined to comment.
A couple of days ago, sources close to the company said that Siemens Chief Executive Peter Loescher was considering the divestment of SIS's external business, the paper said.
Siemens is in the midst of a major overhaul and regrouped its divisions into three main sectors to benefit from global growth trends -- energy, industry and health care -- at the beginning of this year.
Indian outsourcing firms like Tata Consultancy Services and rival Infosys Technologies are expanding in Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Latin America to cut dependence on the U.S. market, which accounts for more than half the sector's revenue.
On Friday, Indian software services firm HCL Technologies launched a rival bid for Britain's Axon Group Plc , for which Infosys is also bidding, sending Axon's share up sharply in on hopes of a bid battle. (Reporting by Eva Kuehnen)

TATA MOTORS has sold over one crore shares in Tata Steel to Tata Sons, the holding company of all Tata group firms.
The shares were sold for a total value of Rs 486 crore. The amount will be used to fund the Jaguar-Land Rover acquisition. The deal will help Tata Sons to raise its stake in Tata Steel.
Earlier this year, Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover brands for $2.3 billion. The company has taken bridge loans to the tune of $3 billion to part finance the acquisition as well as future capital expenditure requirements. Tata Motors have also planned a Rs 4200 crore rights issue to finance the acquisition.
